With their special kind of anarchic freejazz-bebop, the Petter Dalane Quintet, is characterized by a playful, raw and occasionally unruly interplay, with an almost punk aesthetic.
Their repertoire consists of Dalane’s original compositions, with a few exceptions, such as Béla Bartók’s piano piece Bagatelle II arranged for the quintet and some tunes by Thelonious Monk.
While the music draws a lot of influence from the 50’s and 60’s, the quintet’s sense of risk and anarchy makes it feel fresh and contemporary.
The Quintet released their first two albums, Quintet and Sikksakk, in 2024 and 2025, and in 2026 they debuted a new commissioned work for Mandaljazz (NO). Since 2022 they have toured extensively in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands.
